Alexakis Winery

Alexakis Winery was created during the 1970s and it is located in the region of Agios Thomas. It is a family business, initiated by Stelios Alexakis, chemical engineer-oenologist, and Sofia Alexaki; its operation presently continues by their children, Lazaros Alexakis, oenologist of the University of Florence, and Apostolos Alexakis, oenologist of the University of Fresno, California.

This is one of the oldest private wineries in Crete which cooperates with all the winegrowers of the island for many decades and knows very well all the peculiarities of the Cretan Vineyard.

This knowledge enables the Winery to select vineyards with special character for each different wine produced.

The vineyards exist in the regions where Cretan wine thrived. This is obvious by the many (more than one hundred) carved ancient remnants (carved grape treading tanks-winepresses, troughs-vessels, grape presses) preserved near or inside its vineyards. Agios Thomas’ region is mentioned by travelers as an area where famous wine is produced and this thousand-year tradition presently continues with modern means.

The Winery area is open to visitors and it offers special tasting packages.
