Silva Daskalaki Winery
Silva Daskalaki Winery is located in the Prefecture of Heraklion, specifically in Siva village. The name Silva comes from Siva (si-wa) the location’s name, which refers to god Shiva (corresponding to ancient Greek god Dionysus) and it is saved as a name in Hinduism, the oldest “living” religion on the planet.
The larger area belongs to one of the Protected Designation of Origin zones – PDO Dafnes, which involves the Liatiko variety. The surrounding area has always been an ideal viticulture zone since its microclimate allowed the production of high quality wines.
The vineyards of Silva Winery are located around the region of the Winery, in Siva, and some in more remote areas, close to the sea. This diversity of the vineyards’ microclimate offers an additional complexity to the final product.
Through her love and devotion, Irini Daskalaki Xenogiannaki energetically started the wine production, applying new technologies and following the path opened by her ancestors in the specific vines.
In 1998, the family’s first winery was created whereas during the same year, the revival of 90.000 sq.m, privately owned, began; they are cultivated by comprehensive organic farming at an altitude that reaches 500 meters.
In 2003 the Winery acquired the appropriate equipment for production and bottling and in 2004 the first official bottling of PDO dry “Liatiko” wine and PDO natural, sweet “Liatiko” wine took place.
In 2006 came the first “golden” recognition by the “GRAND GOLD” medal won in an international wine competition.
At Daskalaki Winery, guided tours and wine tasting programs take place; a meal can be served after agreement with the winery.
