Wine Routes
The rolling earthen mounds of Heraklion offer idyllic wine routes to wine lovers. In every step of those routes, the past meets the present and the future of the Cretan vineyard. Minoan findings related to wine production can be seen in many locations, whereas the Venetian wine tradition has left its heavy imprint on the region.
Today, in the same wine lands, Cretan winemakers combine primeval knowledge with modern technologies, reviving old varieties and blending them with international ones to produce fine wines, widely recognized. In the wineries of the Wines of Crete Network which can be visited in the greater area of the Municipality of Heraklion, visitors can taste the famous wines, savor the Cretan gastronomy and visit the vineyards.
